Time Away from Work

Staff receive a generous amount of paid time off that generally is available for use immediately as it is accrued. Paid Time Off (PTO) includes time away from work for vacation, illness, or other personal needs. Employees accrue PTO based on their work schedule and employment status. Newly hired regular full-time employees accrue over 8 hours of PTO every two weeks (27 days each year). *PTO accrual is prorated for regular part-time and contingent employees. Eligible employees also have an opportunity to prospectively sell a portion of the PTO they will accrue in the coming year during a special enrollment event annually. Regular staff members also receive time off when absent due to extended illness or injury, and bereavement.

West Michigan CMH Observed Holidays: Regular employees are paid for 14 holidays each year including New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, President’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day (July 4th), Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve.
*Holiday pay is prorated for regular part-time and contingent staff members.

Retirement Plan

West Michigan CMH does not participate in the Social Security system for full-time or part-time (21 hours or more per week) staff. We provide full-time and part-time staff with a Defined Contribution Money Purchase retirement plan that provides 100% vesting after 1 year of employment. The plan provides for an employer contribution of 14.5% with a mandatory employee match of 6%. Employees can also voluntarily elect to contribute an additional 2% that is matched by West Michigan CMH.

West Michigan CMH staff is encouraged to participate in several other retirement plan options including a Deferred Compensation Plan (457), and a Roth IRA plan. Since West Michigan CMH retirement plans are employee-directed, employees are offered opportunities to meet with plan staff to determine investment information and are offered the services of a Certified Financial Planner.
